Had a great experience from beginning to end. The lady who checked us in, Betsy, was super nice. It's located on Truman Ave just a very short walk to Duval St. It's just about at the midway point of Duval St. We stayed in the main building on the 2nd floor. No elevators here but fortunately, I was able to carry all our luggage up the stairs. Might not be so good for older folks, especially if staying on the 3rd floor. Our room had a shared balcony overlooking Truman Ave with 2 other rooms but it was still large enough that you weren't crowded. The rooms were not large but adequate, considering this is an old historic building. The bathroom was good with modern sinks and low-flo toilets. There was also a fridge and TV. The pool was nice and the breakfast is served right next to it. It consisted of cereals, bagels, and yogurt along with milk, juices, tea, and coffee. Some folks sit in the lounge chair to eat but they also have several covered tables. There is iced tea available all day by the pool. They have a sundeck on the 2nd level of the 2nd building which is clothing-optional. I went up there but there were no folks utilizing it. Some of the rooms overlook the sundeck so it's probably only for the most bold users. There are several parking lots on site which is nice. No street parking needed. Will very likely stay here again. The inn is close to famous Duval St and the crowds but the location is actually very quiet. Located by the Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea. My pregnant wife and I walked just about every where since Key West is small and the inn's location was very central to where we went. The Conch Train tour is a couple of blocks away and a great way to see Key West.

I booked through booking.com We spent 2 nights here. The good: the beds were quite comfortable. The pool area is nice. The location is great. It's close to key west night life but not right in the heart of it which is good. The bad: the rooms shown are NOT the rooms you'll get. We thought we were the only ones this happened to but when we talked to more patrons it seems like this is their deal. They intentionally try to cheat you on the room and when you demand to be moved they show you 2 new rooms (of similar quality) to give you the impression of having a choice. Not only was the room tiny but EVERYTHING inside of it was tiny as well. Tiny shelves in the bathroom, no space between the bed and wall, the bathroom is not made for anyone taller than 5'10". If you have an option I would NOT stay here. They certainly will not be receiving my money again.

We stayed here last Saturday, July 13th. We decided the night before to drive to Key West and stay overnight..spur of the moment. Booked a 2 queen and was surprised that this particular hotel had an availability. Arrived at 9pm Saturday night and just washed our faces, brushed teeth and went out for the night. We told our cab driver where we were staying and he immediately praised that this hotel was one of the best. Here are the goods: 1) Spacious modern room. Our 2 queen room was by the pool. 2) Terrace with couple of chairs. 3) Clean linens and fresh towels. 4) Flat Screen, Dryer, Iron, Safe, Wine Fridge 5) Free Parking 5) Upgraded Bathroom (but here comes the bad) The Bad: 1) The Clogged Tub (See Pics): After a night out of bar hopping, I specifically set my alarm at 9am to call for a late check out cause any extra minutes of sleep counts :) The front desk said it was OK to check out at 12noon. Great! Then I noticed the limited pre-prepped continental breakfast was being served so I ran out of the room to grab some bites. The coffee was awesome btw. I decided to stay up and take a shower while my friend went back to sleep. I started running the hot water, got in and noticed the water was above my ankle. I assumed that the tub drain was closed so I opened it....still not draining. I kept opening and closing the drain to see if the water recedes but no luck. After I few wiggling of the drain, then comes out a ball of hair...disgusting! I had to pull it out cause now the water was almost on my calves and worried that my friend was not able to shower in this condition. It was like being in the flooded streets of Miami after a thunderstorm...lol! So I kept on pulling it with a towel then more hair came out and water started draining a little. I proceeded to take a shower and it's now 10:45, so much time wasted unclogging the drain so I can just be considerate to the next person. Well the water didn't drain all the way so I told my friend that he would have to deal with this issue while I go to the front counter, not to complain but to bring to their attention. 2) Front Desk Attitude: So I walked in to the registration and asked for the manager. I mentioned about the clog and she asked me what room we where staying. She immediately followed with "You know check was at 11am" in a condescending manner. Not an apology first but tried to turn the situation to "we did something wrong". I responded "Do not go there" cause her comment just made the situation worse and I was beginning to get angry but I stopped myself and said that that my friend is in the shower now and just want to get out of there. If we took a shower before we went out last night, the situation might have been worse cause there's no front desk after 10pm. The point is, we paid a premium for the night ($268) and this hotel was considered one of the best so this experience was not expected from a Historic Key West B & B! Trust me..I go to Key West often for quick getaways and worry free relaxation and don't like giving negative reviews. In addition, I got stopped by another couple outside the registration area and they were very sympathetic about my issue cause they also had problems in their room. WOW! With numerous B&Bs around Key West, this place had all the beauty outside but they need to pay extra attention with maintenance.

First off, they have an amazing and friendly staff and great service! And a FREE PARKING LOT for guests, say bye-bye to paying for side street parking! Location/area: Great location! 2 blocks away from Duval St., so you're close enough to where all the action takes place but far enough that if you want to relax and get away from the all the noise and business at night you can. And it's also right across the from the only Catholic Church in Key West (I think lol). 10 mins from South Beach, 20 mins walk to Mallory Square, Key West Aquarium, The Shipwreck Museum, etc. Hotel: It has 3 different buildings, 2 of them are 2 stories and the main building where the front desk is at has 3 stories. NO ELEVATORS, so either pack light or have some one carry your luggage up the stairs. As for the room, my mom and I got the cheapest room, which was economy. But when we got there the guy at the front desk upgraded us to a larger room FREE OF CHARGE (it's was my mom's birthday the day we checked in, so I don't think they do this sort of thing all the time, but it was extremely nice of them). The room we stayed in was room 26 on the 2nd floor of the 2nd building. The room had a HUGE BED. Could fit at least 4 people altogether on there. Wooden floors, nice big windows with shutters and curtains, lamp side tables WITH OUTLETS (super convenient and takes the struggle out of searching for an outlet). Bathroom was nice and clean. I liked the style of bathroom, but there could have been more counter space on the sink area, there's no place to put your stuff (doesn't matter for guys, sucks for girls). Flat screen TV and air conditioning. Amenities: 1. Pool - don't be fooled by pictures though! To me it looked bigger than it actually was, it's pretty small. 2. Free Wifi - downfall though, doesn't work inside the bedroom... Only in the lobby and outside of the rooms. And you have to ask for the password (PW: 3052962211, you're welcome lol). 3. Free continental breakfast - served outside by the pool. Not a large selection, and same thing everyday. Cereal, activia yogurt, croissants, blueberry muffins (not that good), bagels, toast, apples, oranges, coffee, and juice. All the seating is also outside. 4. Deck on top if you're daring and want to sunbathe nude. 5. Free parking lot! 6. You can bring a pet, as long as it stays on the leash. Overall, it was a decent bed and breakfast kind if place, but for key west, what it offers, and the price you have to pay, not really worth it in my opinion. I've read a lot of other reviews on this place and it seems as if its a HIT OR MISS and I think that has to do with the room you end up with. They have a nice staff and they definitely make the place sound nice on paper, but when you get there, it's not worth the the amount they charge you.

I think your experience at the Chelsea House depends on which room you get. We had room 4, a king-bed room, and I found the room to be lacking several key amenities that one would expect when paying $200 a night for a hotel. I know that's a reasonable price for Key West as I have paid more than double that for other hotels there. I also think you accept a certain level of risk when choosing a B&B. For me, room 4 didn't work, but I do like Chelsea House overall. So, room 4.There is no closet, there are no hangars, just three hooks mounted on the wall. We survived, but with some wrinkled clothes. The air conditioner is old and very loud, the water pressure in the bathroom is dismal; I could go on. One really gross part was the mold spores on the toilet paper roll holder. How can the housekeeping staff miss that? You look at it every time you replace the roll, and I noticed it the first time I looked at it. This alone is enough to warrant my two-star rating. There are good things, though, so maybe room 4 is just crap. The breakfast is great. The location is a nice quiet balance with the noise two blocks down the road on Duval, but overall I will look elsewhere when we return to Key West.

..I highly recommend this B&B!! The room was clean and cute, they allowed the dog as long as you tell them ahead of time so they can put you in one of their pet rooms...which was ground floor (so you can take him out whenever you need to without having to go up and down 2 flights of stairs!) and didnt share a wall with any other rooms so if he barked he didnt bother anyone! The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Its walking distance to Duval (we parked the car when we checked in and didnt have to move it until we checked out. We could walk everywhere from here, yet it wasnt SO close that we had to deal with drunk noise all night). And its reasonably priced! Will definitely stay here again!

Stayed in Room 6. Pros: good location, free parking, historic building, friendly staff, pool, free breakfast, decent sized room, limited free wifi, high ceiling in room, fridge in room, quiet Cons: shower only, no tub, no closet, no hangers, windows do not open, they are screwed shut

First, let me say that the pool area is lovely, and the staff were super nice. Breakfast was healthy. it consisted of activia yogurt, packaged cereals and apples. Also a good location. close enough to walk to attractions, but not crazy loud. OK, now the down side. When we arrived, our room had not been cleaned very well. Hair in the tub. Rust, corroded tub drain, peeling paint on bathroom wall, rotting window frames (room 30). There was mold growing on the ceiling and it smelled damp and musty. Not what we were expecting based on website. Went and talked to the management to see if we could be moved to another room, but they were booked. We are here for New Year's week, so nothing available. Had to prepay for week, so we are out of luck. They got someone to come in with a bleach solution and clean up the mold. Smells much better. Advice: Bure when you make your reservation to ask for a room that has been updated. Traveling with family members who had an updated room (room 31). New bath and they are very pleased! They have wi-fi, but it doesn't work in our room. We were advised to sit by the pool, where the signal is better.

I have never been big on the B&Bs, but my wife insisted that she thought we should try Chelsea House. It's pet friendly, which is something we're always looking for (since we usually travel around with our dog). Our room was on the first floor facing Truman Ave (literally - when you walk out the door of the room, you are standing on the porch on the street). I was a little worried that being that close to the street would mean excessive noise throughout the night and poor sleep, but that wasn't the case. The pool area was very nice, but we didn't spend too much time there. The best thing about this hotel was the location - just far enough from the craziness of Duval Street so the area remains somewhat quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location but room needed help. The bathroom was a disaster for a normal size person to get ready. Very tight quarters. TV couldn't be seen from bed. Charming otherwise. Guys you should server real jelly at breakfast not the fake cheap kind!

Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. There are a few houses as part of this complex, all with different rooms, so I imagine the exact room would make a difference. We stayed in the Forester Room - King Bed. It was a nice size room with lovely furnishings. The room was clean and the linens were of quality. We had a balcony off the room which was also connected to the room next door. Thankfully no one was in the other room during our stay. Otherwise, they would be standing at our windows while on the balcony. Overall it was relatively quiet and private which is a very nice thing from a b&b. The breakfast by the pool is a lovely setting. The breakfast itself was nothing special. The location is good, not great. But I suppose it all depends on where you want to go. If you walk the block to Duval, you'll pay about $20 for a pedicab to get you to Sloppy Joe's. It is certainly a walkable distance, but by the 3rd day, our feet were aching.

Excellent location within walking distance of downtown Key West. The owners are extremely friendly, and the place is immaculate: a number of homes, mostly enlarged and furnished with handsome furniture, clustered around a pool and deck where one can breakfast in real peace. Chelsea House is on Truman Street just as you enter Key West.

Stayed here with my wife on 4/19/11. This is a bit different than your typical B&B but was still a great experience. There are 3 houses on this property. Private parking lot was a plus. Front desk service was very hospitable. Great location to the sites of Key West. Within 15 minutes walking distance of Duvall St. restaurants/shops, the southernmost point, beach, Hemingway's House, Lighthouse, and other great sites. My suggestion for room choice, is to call the location, and ask about each specific size/level before deciding what you want to stay in. Our room was an add-on that looked like it probably used to be part of the porch area of the original house. No complaints, just not quite what I was expecting from my perception of what I would get at a B&B. But the room was still nice, and the flat screen tv was a nice perk I wasn't expecting. Beautiful bathroom. We stayed in Room # 21, it had a private entrance from the porch area that was within 20 steps of the pool area, so we were able to get wireless internet in the room. My recommendation though is to get a room on the 2nd floor of either of the 2 main buildings. They seem like they would be the most private, and that is my biggest concern for a B&B. Sidenote: We did not partake, but the map of the "compound" stated that the 2nd floor sunbathing deck on the 2nd building (overlooking the pool) is a clothing optional area. Breakfast was nothing special, but free is free. the basics: cereal, fruit, single yogurt cups, toast, bagels, english muffins, coffee, juice, milk. Better than going to Denny's down the street. All in all, I was very happy with our stay, would definitely stay here again if I were to ever visit Key West again.

I absolutely love this place!!! We had our pets with us so we were very carefully on picking the right place. We went online and checked for prices, and for the place, the price was right!!! The costumer service was awesome, the room service was great, though I may add the room was a bit small it made the place very cozy!! It was close to Duval so we would walk there, instead of lookin for parking. The breakfast was good for the price, it allowed to save some $. I recommended all the way if u want some piece and quite, and relaxing vaca.

I wish I could say that I just LOVED this B & B but...well, I didn't. I LIKED it but love is just too strong of a word for me. The price was wonderful at about $160/night and the proximity to shops and museums on nearby Duval and Whitehead Streets is fantastic. The main building is adorable...Victorian, hardwood, quaint...and the pool is equally lovely. There's even a separate sundeck where clothing is "optional" if that's what you're into! lol Our room also had a private "veranda" which was nice...great view from the 3rd floor. Where the Chelsea House falls short is with the beds!! Apparently they just bought NEW beds but they must've spent like a hundred on each because honestly, I could've slept better on the floor! And I'm not the only one who hated it. I spoke with a woman over our continental breakfast out by the pool in the morning and she said she had the WORST night of sleep ever on the darn thing. She even complained...but to be honest...I don't think they care because new customers will continue to check in here based on price and location. The other sucky thing with the hotel is the layout...it's very Hansel and Gretel and fairy-tale-esque. lol We had to climb three flights of stairs to get to our little room...and they were all seemingly like that...doors sprinkled all about at different heights in the building. Cute but a pain in the ass dragging luggage...can't imagine what it would be like for an elderly person...not friendly to aging folk at all! lol I stuck my head into the "Lighthouse Inn" which across from the Hemingway House...it was another we looked into at about $139 a night. It looked pretty good but I can't vouch for the beds. I'd definitely check that place out next time or spring for a more expensive room somewhere else.

This is the sister house to the Key Lime Inn. We had to stay here the 2nd night cause KL was booked. The rooms were MUCH smaller. So small in fact, that when you opened the door, it hit the bed! Ah!! Also, the bathroom has zero ventilation, and the tub is pretty old and gnarly looking. It did have a nice balcony though, and the pool was a nice place to nap, aside from the screaming children that showed up. (ugh, WHY do they always show up during nap time?) The staff was really friendly, and we were just grateful to have a place to sleep that night. It was a bit over priced for the condition of the room, so Ill probably stay at the Key Lime next time.

We stayed in a Junior king Suite and it was perfect. Great private porch, very peaceful. Nice pool. Never tried the breakfast so can't comment on that. Will definitely stay again!

We wanted a place to stay near Duval Street but far enough away from the madness. This location is excellent in that regards - even though it is on Highway 1 - very quiet and peaceful. We booked months in advance since it was New Year's and rooms are tight - and more expensive. They did not require the 7 night minimum I found at other inns. Is it a B&B or a small hotel??? Well, I think more of a small hotel spread across a couple older homes with new units added at a later time. Many mention flat screen tv's - not in room 1. Rooms vary and this has affected many people's reviews. Ours was room 1 just at the reception area. Large and pleasant. The Ritz, no.... but then that isn't what we were expecting. Staff was friendly and Andy, the manager, was always helpful with suggestions and assistance in booking our jet ski adventure. Breakfast is basic continental. Pool area has limited seating, but was fine for our needs. Overall, we'd return, but I'd inquire the specifics of the room to make sure it would suit our needs.
